The release of the 2008 vintage of Marilyn Merlot on June 1st (the birth date of Marilyn Monroe) celebrates the 24th vintage of a wine appreciated by fans of the iconic star, collectors of Marilyn memorabilia, and lovers of fine Napa Valley wines.
Winemakers Notes: "The 2008 vintage Marilyn Merlot is the 24th release of this fine wine. It is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was aged in 100% oak barrels, 35% of which were new for this vintage. Aromas of Herbes de Provence, primarily thyme and lavender complement the oak components of vanilla and smoke from the wood. Moderate alcohol and good acidity make this wine a good pairing with fine foods. Vineyard locations for this wine are from our long time growers in Yountville and Oakville regions of the Napa Valley." John McKay - Winemaker

Vinification and Refinement: This Chianti Superiore is the result of a careful selection in Burchino vineyard, inside Colline Pisane production area, of the best Sangiovese grapes together with a small portion of an autochthon grape, Ciliegiolo. Hand picked grapes are immediately fermented in the modern cellars of Burchino. A prolonged maceration with the skins gives to the wines complex aromas and a fruity scent. The ageing takes place for over a year in traditional Slavonian oak casks. The wine is refined in bottle for a further period.
Description: Intense ruby red colour. Characteristic bouquet with plenty of cherry, leather and cedars flavours. The round mouthful with notes of liquorice and tar is wrapped around ripe almost candied fruit.
Food Matches: Ideal with steaks and grilled meats, perfect with mature cheeses. Serve at room temperature.
