In the history of winemaking San Marzano Oliveto enjoys a special position permitting to produce both the wines that are the highlights of this area: Barbera d'Asti and Muscat d'Asti.
The postiion of San Marzano Oliveto is really strategic in the geographical map of the Asti provicn since this villiage lies between two important areas of great prestige. In the South East area it is part of the zone of Nizza Monferrato with clayish grounds, ideal for the production of high quality Barbera. The Western par of the teritory shows the characteristics of the zone Canelli, i.e. an exceptionaly tuffy and marly ground, a combination unique in the world able to enhance the aroma of the grapes of white Muscat.
Licorice, cherry, peppery, coffee nose. Cherry, smoky coffee, vanilla, licorice,
black pepper flavours. Pairs well with rich pasta, roasted or grilled red meats,
wild game and strong cheeses.
